Columbus Behavioral Center Creates Music Album Through TherapyCOLUMBUS, Ind. – (April 29, 2010) – On any given day, you might hear a song on the radio about how important music is to that musician’s life. It’s a common theme in many songs, and many singers and songwriters admit that music is their therapy to cope with everyday life. Columbus Behavioral Center, a Psychiatric Solutions, Inc. (PSI) facility, is making its own music to help residents in the same way. Each Friday in April and May, Doug Babb, local master teaching artist with VSA Arts of Indiana, will host weekly music therapy workshops for children and adolescents at the facility. “This is the third time Doug has visited our facility and he is back by popular demand,” said Kelly Ulreich, chief executive officer of Columbus Behavioral Center. “Music is part of the fabric of our lives and is something everyone can identify with. This particular program is a way for residents to express themselves in a constructive and creative way.” Babb will help residents produce and record their own heartfelt music onto a CD. Residents will learn about the entire recording process by choosing beats and the instruments, as well as writing the lyrics, arranging the musical piece and designing the artwork for the cover of the album. “It will be an educational, fun and exciting opportunity to help residents express feelings that may be difficult to talk about,” added Ulreich. At the end of the workshop, each participant will receive a CD of their collaborated work. The last workshop is Friday, May 14.
